Sketching and Concepting

Although the subject matter was clear, I had a variety of styles and compositions to consider. At the beginning of any illustration project, I do a large amount of sketching to test out all of the compositions and combinations I can imagine. I then present these sketches in their raw form to the client with an understanding that this helps guide the project and save time otherwise spent making the final illustration.

Final Illustrations

The illustrations were drawn in pencil with real life references to ensure the honeybees and additional imagery were scientifically correct as possible. Once all of the details were refined and edited, I inked the final illustration and colored them in digitally.

T-shirts

The illustrations were released to MABA for their use for fundraising items from print to order websites. The t-shirts shown were examples of what that might look like.
