The Metro Atlanta Bee Keeper’s Association maintains a legacy of preservation and education about the honey bee through urban bee keeping. In an effort to raise funds via beautiful stationery and t-shirts, I was commissioned to create natural and accurate illustrationsof honey bees. After doing significant research about bees and bee keeping I became fascinated by the structure of honey bee culture and bee keeping ephemera. The resulting illustrations were clear and accurate depictions of the different honey bee castes and essential bee keeping tools.
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a museum and cultural institution in Atlanta, Georgia devoted to the memory and spirit of the Civil Rights Movement. During a website re-design, I created a collection of icons for use on the site and in other communication materials.
Clot is a grindcore band based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Their initial release, Grief Tethers, was inspired by the sudden and traumatic loss of the frontman’s father. The album is a powerful sonic assault, as energized as it is mournful.
Polyco, also known as US Polyco, is an asphalt manufacturer who primarily sources their base materials from recycled tires and asphalt. This “green” asphalt was adapted to asphalt products used in paving and shingle roofing. I was one of the primary designers and art director for the Polyco account while I was employed by Sol Design Co. from 2021-2023.
Plane Hopper is a progressive emo band based out of Jersey City, New Jersey. Their initial release, Sad Spells for Lonely wIzards, was inspired by the band members’ shared love of a childhood fantasy game. The album is an epic collection of complexly arranged songs contrasted with a cathartic narrative arc.
Galette is a small-batch French bakery based in Avondale Estates Georgia. The baker is owned by Morgan Perkins and Ashley Thomas, who both happen to have fantastic senses of humor. I dropped in to the shop one day to discuss creating illustrations for merch celebrating their first anniversary and the results were nothing short of sweet and cheeky.
Argosy is a long loved bar in East Atlanta with an eclectic interior and a collection of rabbits. After an extended closure of their interior space during the pandemic, they wanted to celebrate re-opening with fresh merch in the Summer of 2021 (when the general public were receiving the first wave of vaccinations.)
Challenger Deep is an instrumental progressive rock band out of Atlanta, Georgia. Since their first release, Challenger Deep has collaborated with visual artists who understand their love of aquatic science fiction with an elaborate illustration style.
Patcraft creates tough but beautiful flooring solutions through performance based design. Every year Patcraft releases a special collection for NeoCon, North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors. In 2013, Patcraft’s featured collection, Design Catalyst, allowed users to create a multitude of designs through a system of interrelated carpeting tiles and offered a look and feel that was edgy and industrial. The Soloflight creative team developed the Design Catalyst sub-brand and designed the product catalog and trade show materials for Neocon.
Foxtrot Liquor Bar is a high-end pub that opened near the close of 2016. Offering exemplary cocktails in the heart of midtown, the bar was developed in a renovated house and styled after motifs and textures found in mid century men’s fashion and air travel. In collaboration with fellow senior designer Walker Carney, we offered Foxtrot brand consultation and logo design. To elaborate the interior motifs and create a memorable mark out of a long name we developed a streamline yet masculine logo type.
Ladybird Grove and Messhall is a popular restaurant in one of the most sought after locations in Atlanta. To compliment their already existing brand and restaurant space, I re-designed their website, menus and events package inspired by roadside country cafe menus.
Westrock, now Smurfit Westrock, is among the largest paper packaging manufacturers in the United States. Specializing in corrugated paper packaging, one of their premier products was Kraftpak, a recycled kraft fiber based laminated paper suitable for food and personal care packaging. Part of Westrock’s 2019 sales strategy was to create a new suite of sales materials for that years trade shows, resulting in the need for a packet of physical product samples.
Dynamix is an IT consultation firm that prioritizes security while providing cutting edge insights for large scale corporate clients. The nature of their industry demands distilling complicated ideas and systems into digestible concepts for their clients and internal team alike. While at Sol Design, as Art Director, I had the opportunity to be the lead creative for a full brand update and website redesign.
