Ladybird Grove and Messhall is a popular restaurant in one of the most sought after locations in Atlanta. To compliment their already existing brand and restaurant space, I re-designed their website, menus and events package inspired by roadside country cafe menus.
The Metro Atlanta Bee Keeper’s Association maintains a legacy of preservation and education about the honey bee through urban bee keeping. In an effort to raise funds via beautiful stationery and t-shirts, I was commissioned to create natural and accurate illustrationsof honey bees. After doing significant research about bees and bee keeping I became fascinated by the structure of honey bee culture and bee keeping ephemera. The resulting illustrations were clear and accurate depictions of the different honey bee castes and essential bee keeping tools.
Andrew J Bain is an Atlanta based blacksmith with decades of Modernist styled iron work. To push his practice further and document his process and work, I helped him create a portfolio based website and photographed his most significant work in Atlanta. The color palette across the site was inspired by the warm tones in iron patina and bright safety colors of the tools in his studio. We took all of the photography at his and his neighbors homes in historic Buckhead, focusing particularly on his use of form for function.
Atlanta Beltline Inc. has been the driving force behind a progressive development project commonly known as the Beltline. Atlanta Beltline Inc. continually seeks to unite the people of Atlanta by developing and improving derelict Atlanta properties through the creation of a pedestrian and bike friendly path that loops around the entire city, connecting communities, parks and public art. 2012 was a significant year for Atlanta Beltline Inc. that brought both development tot he project and internal struggles within the organization. Moving into 2013, Atlanta Beltline Inc. wanted to focus on community building though revitalization and the positive impact the Beltline already had on Atlanta. As the project’s lead designer at Soloflight, I designed the organizations 2012 annual report around these themes.
Patcrat creates tough but beautiful flooring solutions through performance based design. Every year Patcraft releases a special collection for NeoCon, North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors. In 2013, Patcraft’s featured collection, Design Catalyst, allowed users to create a multitude of designs through a system of interrelated carpeting tiles and offered a look and feel that was edgy and industrial. The Soloflight creative team developed the Design Catalyst sub-brand and designed the product catalog and trade show materials for Neocon.
Foxtrot Liquor Bar is a high-end pub that opened near the close of 2016. Offering exemplary cocktails in the heart of midtown, the bar was developed in a renovated house and styled after motifs and textures found in mid century men’s fashion and air travel. In collaboration with fellow senior designer Walker Carney, we offered Foxtrot brand consultation and logo design. To elaborate the interior motifs and create a memorable mark out of a long name we developed a streamline yet masculine logo type.
Prior to 2012 Piedmont Healthcare completely restructured their hospital and healthcare system to better serve people in the metro Atlanta area. Part of this change was a greater focus on and sensitivity to the patient, a quality many in the public sphere may not associate with a large hospital system. The 2012 Piedmont Healthcare annual report featured the stories of real patients and how Piedmont saved or improved their lives. To effectively tell these stories the creative team at Soloflight discovered the theme of “Connecting the Dots” between the Piedmont system and each patient’s personal account. The annual report also contained a poster with statistics supporting Piedmont Healthcare’s personal yet wide reaching service and a full list of all the public donors for 2012.
Twigg & Co is the re-imagining of an Atlanta based chocolatier. This specific chocolate boutique pioneered “bean to bar” cacao processing using the finest and rarest cacao beans in the world with expert confectionery craft. The concept and style of the brand derived from the relationship of the chocolatier to wild natural environments and the great variation of products that are produced from that relationship. The source, processes and products related to cacao ideally exist in a self sustaining system. The structure of a plant refers to that system on both a literal and conceptual level. There is the obvious tie to the Cacao plant but the relationships between each step in the process of making chocolate can be illustrated by the generic structure of a plant with a root/source with many branches and twigs that exponentially diversify.
Modern Atlanta is a global brand that promotes design through an annual event called Design is Human. For a week, the greatest minds in all veins of design converge in Atlanta for gallery showings, lectures, films and a modern home tour. While interning with Armchair Media, I was the lead designer for the 2012 Modern Atlanta guide.
Sole Umbra is the consultation practice of Robin Bennett that guides businesses into a wholistic and sustainable practice of reflection and growth for better business development and strategies. This is done not by directly “attacking” a problem, but by exploring the “shadow” of the business, the hidden reality that must be worked with rather than against, in order for the business to truly flourish This work is done through a unique process rooted in interpersonal and spiritual methods of self-discovery with sources ranging from Jungian archetypes to dream therapy.
